30 May 1995 at 8.30pm after isyak
The end of my bachelor days.
I remember it once, twice and year after year. There were occasions that we missed it and we gladly laughed of how careless we were . Occupied with daily routines, things were carried away that we didnt realize how time flew passed us. That shouldn't be but it happened. Last year, yep I remembered it well and timed the delivery of the bouquet perfectly. Year before that 2007, was good too. After all, it was my first year being away from the family - the distance kept me alert. After all, the thought of missing the dearie was so great.
This year? Almost. I remember it well, my diary beeped the reminder. Well, good timing. The morning was alright, got a chance to skype home at about 9.00am in Saudi and it was 2.00pm in Kuala Lumpur. Spoke to my maid asking how the kids were doing. My eldest was recovering from high fever and was fetched home by my wife a week earlier. Asked the maid how she was doing knowing that her sister; a maid to my sister-in-law escaped from their house the previous day. Ok everything seemed to be fine.
My wife drove to Ipoh in the afternoon with her brother to collect my son's stuff at his boarding school in Ipoh. Everything went smooth as planned. Came almost maghrib, my wife called me hastily and I got panicked. The tone was different. She told me that OUR maid ran way from home too. Her reason - to find her sister. Oh my. what should we do? I told my wife, don't bother, don't rush, drive home safely from Ipoh as it was more important. My two other kids were at home with Atuk & Nenek. Great saviour. This is the part of our blessing, Ma & Pa still around to lend a hand. 11.00pm - safely arrived home from Ipoh.
That was it, the day passed just like that. No passionate stories between the two of us about our anniversary.
4 June 2009 - received email from the wife. Talked about our wedding reception in 1995.
Yes. 4 June 1995 was our wedding reception at the bride's house. We laughed at what has happened, once in a while the story changed to something about the maid that ran away. Ok, not to get distracted the story changed to the wedding reception day at her house. Recalling how busy the day was, how exhausted I was on the night when cousins, aunties and uncles were around anxiously wanting to know stories about me - new person in the family. The story ended there.
Two hours later, another email popped in. The message was - 'would it be nice to have flowers on this day' - again, I didnt realize how hopeful she was that I would be sensitive enough to think of something as a gift. Aaaargghh......
I immediately skyped my florist in Wisma Central, yes I do keep my KL's florist number handy even in Saudi Arabia. Registered their number in Skype for easy reference. It was almost 4.oopm in Kuala Lumpur and managed to speak to Mandy. She seems to remember me, that made the whole conversation lot easier. Ordered a dozen of white lillies, specifically requested only lillies no roses and not even pink lillies. I know she likes lillies very much. Making sure the whole combination with subtle colours, Mandy acknowledged this request and helped to write the message on the card. Wow, she surely know what to write as I guided her with my important points - 14th, miss, love etc. Mandy promised to send the bouquet at night after 8.30pm, just in time after my wife arrived home from office. Sent a message that delivery will be made at the time as promised. No response. Sent again, she replied - didn't seem that she quite 'got' the message that flower was on the way! Ok. Just wait.
Came the night, I skyped to her again checking where the whole family has gone. As expected at atuk and nenek's house. Reminded her something was on the way and they were already hit the road. After much anxiety (it was me), they arrived home and voila...about half an hour later the florist called and there it was..My Bouquet!
She thanked and emailed me the pics of the bouquet. My little girl even asked the mum; where was her flower. This time around, she knew that it was from Daddy, otherwise like last year she would claimed that it was from the delivery man to mum. Oh my god.
5 June 2009 - 14 years ago, this day was my wedding reception at my house.
It was 10.00am, and Friday. It was weekend in Saudi. What should I do to make the day. Surfing the net and restless. Watched satellite movies and happened to hook on Guess Who - Ashton Kutcher and Bernie Mac. Seemed to be interesting then I noticed this lovely song crooning, the tunes that seemed to be so familiar..'You'll never find, as long as you live........' Quickly googled the lyrics and there you are Lou Rawls. This would be nice to send to her..to reminisce the beautiful day of our anniversary.
...yes truly beautiful words for the beautiful day.........
You'll never find, as long as you live
Someone who loves you tender like I do
You'll never find , no matter where you search
Someone who cares about you the way I do.......and the words just move line by line.
It was 11.30AM and at the last bit of my email, I wrote:
'Kejap lagi pengantin nak sampai kat Pandan Mewah....12.30PM, 5 June 1995'
(In a few minutes the groom will arrive at Pandan Mewah at 12.30 PM..on 5 June 1995 - and that was ME!)
And that line caught her..made her day as she knew that I did still remember the day.
Happy 14th Anniversary - Love and Miss You so much...
I called her Ita.
